The Death Track: Indian Railways should buckle up its safety measures

Similar to crisis face by our economy and many other economies around the world, this money packed wide enterprise; the Indian Railways is on the verge of facing the same heat. With series of fire casualty in last couple of months, eyebrows have been raised regarding its safety and inefficiencies.

After the death of over two dozen of people in Andhra Pradesh, similar accident took place in munbai-dehradun express killing 9 people during early hours of Wednesday. Both of this unfortunate incidents occurred in time of 15 days.

It will be tedious task ahead to take corrective measures, since successive governments has only brought shame to this huge institution by channeling out money meant for its development and safety. Indian Railways is the largest employer of India, but still it shows substandard governance with wasting of resources.

All this incidents are nothing but DNA of inefficient and poor safety management measure which in turn is a result of corrupt and insensitive attitude. Even though some measures are being taken to improve the safety, it is not proving to be enough.
It is high time that babus must reailse the importance of honesty and integrity. Having said that 1,42,311 posts in safety category of Indian railways is still vacant. Although, central government has signaled a scrutiny of funds and revenue managed by India Railways, things will not be in place until and unless the governing officers listen to their call of conscious.

As per latest update, Railway union is planning to go on strike for their demands. This will only add to the sufferings of common man. It would be interesting to watch how government will tackle with the situation.
